MAC100 Honorary Chairs Announced

Mystic Museum of Art will commemorate its 100 year history by honoring the artists, community members, businesses, and political leaders who helped us become the arts and culture hub we are today.
We begin by announcing the Honorary Chairs of our Centennial Committee. MMoA’s Centennial Committee – made up of staff and volunteers – will be busy planning and organizing a special birthday celebration and fundraiser on June 15.
Centennial Committee Honorary Chairs
Lois H. Constantine is an Elected Artist Member and a long-time volunteer of MMoA. She has served on MMoA’s Board of Directors and supported multiple projects like the Permanent Collection, hanging paintings, teaching, and chairing exhibitions. She has put her largest mark on MMoA in the Archives which she started in the 1980’s by collecting MMoA related historical items from a variety of sources. She is helping Mystic Museum of Art preserve its Permanent Collection and history for future generations, while also supporting it financially in memory of her husband Jay. As an artist, Lois studied under Robert Brackman and continues to teach art and exhibit work in the area.
Harvey K. Fuller moved to Mystic in 1947 and became an Elected Artist in 1949. Harvey served on our Board of Directors, is a member of the Charles Davis Society, and was a volunteer at MMoA. One of Harvey’s first jobs was painting murals at the Cotton Club in Harlem, where Cab Galloway and Bill Robinson practiced their routine below his ladder. He also painted murals at the Hippodrome and completed a commissioned 30-foot painting of prizefighter Joe Lewis. Harvey was a well known sign painter in the area before retiring to devote himself to his own art full-time.
Sandy Halsey is originally from New Jersey and moved to the Mystic area in 1986. She and her family soon became active members at MMoA. Sandy has been a long standing supporter of MMoA, is currently a member of the MMoA Development Committee, as well a supporter of other organizations in the community such as the Mystic Garden Club.
Jon Kodama is the owner of JTK Management and serves on MMoA’s Board of Directors along with several other non-profits in the area. Born in Hawaii, Jon has lived in the area for forty years. A longtime supporter of MMoA, if you have been to one of our fundraisers and enjoyed our amazing food, it was most likely from one of his wonderful restaurants. Jon’s generosity with his time has been very important to MMoA.
Sarah Stifler Lucas has worn many hats here at MMoA over the past 25 years– Elected Artist, Teacher, President of the Board of Directors, Charles Davis Society Member, Exhibition Committee Member, MMoA 99 and MMoA 100 Committee Member. She remains one of our most consistent supporters. Sarah’s award winning art is distinctive; her café and street scenes are well known and her style combines representation with abstraction.
Hon. Andrew Maynard is a longstanding supporter of the community and the arts in the area. He was the Assistant Director for Quester Gallery from 1983 to 1989 and then worked as Director of The Cooley Gallery of Fine Art from 1992 to 2004. Senator Andrew Maynard is serving his third term in the Connecticut General Assembly, representing the 18th Senatorial District towns of Griswold, Groton, North Stonington, Plainfield, Preston, Sterling, Stonington, and Voluntown. He is currently the Senate chair of the legislature’s Transportation Committee, vice chair of the Environment Committee and sitting member of the Appropriations.
Joyce Olson Resnikoff has lived in New London county for over 40 years and is the co-owner of Olde Mistick Village. Joyce has been a member, committee chair (for our 2009 Off The Wall summer fundraiser) and MMoA supporter for over the fifteen years. She has a longstanding reputation for supporting non-profits in the Mystic/New London area.
Willa T. Schuster is an Honorary Member of MMoA, past president of the Board of Directors and contributor to the construction of MMoA’s Schuster Gallery which exhibits pieces of the Permanent Collection. Willa volunteered on many MMoA committees including Public Relations, Long Range Planning and Permanent Collection, Sales & Marketing. Willa is a native of Mystic and holds the record for being a MMoA member for the greatest number of years starting as a junior member.
Peter F. Stuart has been a loyal friend and supporter of MMoA since 1982. Peter has lived in Mystic for over forty years and practices law at his firm O’Brien Eppinger Stuart & Collier. He served twice as President of our Board of Directors and currently serves as Chair of the Development Committee. Alongside his good friend Tony Halsey, Peter helped to establish Mystic Museum of Art’s Education Endowment Fund.
