Getty Selects MMoA’s Salerno for Prestigious Summer Program

Dawn E. Salerno, Deputy Director for Public Engagement and Operations at Mystic Museum of Art (MMoA), has been selected one of 62 museum officials worldwide to attend the 2017 Getty Leadership Institute in Claremont, CA. The selective and intensive four-week program brings together a diverse range of leaders to gain skills to strengthen their cultural institutions.
“The depth and diversity of the experience and perspective of those attending will be phenomenal,” says Salerno. “I’m confident I will be able to gain insights and ideas that will prove beneficial to several facets of what we do here at the Museum.”
Now in its 38^th year, the Institute is a management program for chief executive and operating officers, directors, and senior level museum executives who influence policy, effect change, and are in the first two to seven years of their position. The Institute strives to include participants with a range of specializations, sizes, budgets, and geographical locations. Participants come from collecting and non-collecting visual arts and cultural institutions and specialized museums from across the globe. Included in the group are executives from such institutions as The Hermitage Amsterdam, The Royal Academy of the Arts in London, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, and the Nanjing Museum of China.
A Mystic native, Salerno began as Deputy Director at MMoA in 2015. Previous to MMoA, Salerno served as Associate Museum Educator for School and Family Audiences at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford, CT, and as Assistant Director/Director of Education at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum in New London, CT.  She holds an M.S. from Bank Street College of Education and a B.A. from Boston University. In 2010, she was named the Connecticut Art Education Association’s Outstanding Museum Educator of the Year.
She currently serves as First Vice President on the Board of Directors of the New England Museum Association, Northeast Regional Representative for the American Alliance of Museums’ EdCom Membership Committee, and as a member of the Board of Directors for Connecticut Humanities.
