Wales, sharks, and jellyfish, oh my! In this camp, the place to be is under the deep blue sea. Art projects will use a wide variety of art materials and techniques and will focus on the ocean environment and the creatures that inhabit it. Each day will be an artistic exploration of life beneath the surface and will foster a love and appreciation of all things aquatic.
This week we will truly be out of this world! Get ready to go to infinity with projects that explore outer space. From spaceship construction to alien puppets, 3-D planets, and more, get ready to explore the cosmos through art. Would you rather be an astronaut or an artist… this week you’re going to be both!
Come get messy with us! Join us for a week of exploring and discovering new textures and new ways to make art. This camp is all about using our senses to discover the world around us!

Poses & Paint
Incorporate age-appropriate yoga poses, breathing, movement, mindfulness games, concentration techniques, and relaxation into your lineup of summer fun. Utilizing our galleries, studio space, and the beautiful outdoors, students will blend art and yoga in a relaxing and supportive environment. Projects will include mandala making, nature-focused art, peace flags, mindfulness jars, zen stones, and so much more.
Get ready to turn our art studios into a chemistry lab and mix and brew concoctions that include bubble paintings, slime recipes, bath fizzers, pendulum splatter art, rocket building, 3-D engineering and more! It’s a week packed with non-stop science fun!
Color my World
Where would art be without color? Get ready to be an expert on all things to do with colors. Projects will focus on the basics of the color wheel – from understanding colors and how they work together in art, to mixing and blending, how colors affect our emotions etc. Campers will create art that celebrates the wonderful world of color that we live in.
Children spend the week creating magical kingdoms complete with fairies, unicorns, woodland creatures, mermaids, elves, dragons and more! These characters are brought to life through role-playing, storytelling, illustrations, and 3-D sculptures.
Around the World
Join us on an art exploration around the world. Each day will take you to a new place as we explore exciting cultures through arts and crafts, stories, music and more. Create African jewelry, Tibetan mandalas, Chinese brush painting, Mexican folk crafts, and much more.
Nature & Art
Give your child the chance to experience the transformative power of art and nature. Projects in assorted media, drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and more will inspire creativity, promote well-being, and enhance your child’s connection to nature. This week we will utilize both the studio space and our beautiful grounds on the Mystic River to inspire our sense of natural wonder.

Storytelling and Art
We’ve all heard the phrase “a picture tells a story.” It’s true – people throughout history have told stories through art. From cave painting to graphic novels, we can use art to communicate our fantasies and experiences. This camp will use myths, legends, fairytales, and other genres of storytelling to inspire art, imagination, and wonder.
Art Gone Wild (full Day Program 9am – 4pm)
Explore and create in this cooperative camp opportunity that will bring out the nature-loving artist in your child. This collaboration between the Mystic Museum of Art (MMOA) and Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center (DPNC) will use the grounds of both organizations as inspiration for constructing sculptures, textiles, sketches, paintings and more! Discover the wonderful sounds, patterns, colors, and rhythms of animals and how that can be translated into art. Get ready to go wild for animals and art!

Mixed Media: Wonders of the Ocean
“Sea” how much the ocean influences your world! From seascapes rendered in watercolor to deep-sea dioramas, create your favorite visions of our watery planet.
Students explore model making and sculpture using a variety of non-ceramic clays – such as Polymer, Air Dry and Sculpey. Campers will study the basics of form, texture, and color to turn their illustrations into compelling 3-D designs. Recreate characters and animals from popular books, comics and movies and develop the skills to design your very own!

Fine Art Fundamentals
In the MMoA studios, galleries, and scenic outdoor space, campers explore different fine art techniques, using pencil, charcoal, watercolor, pastel, and paint application. Sketchbook exercises and site-specific installation projects build confidence and hone individual artistic styles.
This camp will introduce the basic skills that designers use to create innovative products and environments by transforming ideas into workable solutions. Demonstrations and fun design challenges will illustrate the concept presented each day. Through observation, problem solving, visualization, storyboarding, prototyping, and communication of ideas, this camp will challenge and develop your creative thought processes and give you the skills to turn your ideas into reality.
Take your painting skills to a new level! Practice painting from observation to improve your understanding of form, color, and composition. Learn basic watercolor techniques for washes, controlled edges, and expressive brush strokes, for a variety of subjects including still lifes, reference images, and plein air landscapes.
Do you love clothing, accessories, and styling? This camp will teach you ways to communicate your ideas visually, and give you the skills to develop those thoughts in 2-D renderings. Working in mixed media, including paints, collage, and drawing tools, this program focuses on creating unique and original designs to call your own.
*All camps are subject to combining or cancellation due to low enrollment.
*A Program Participation Packet (PPP) must be completed for each student by the start of camp season. Please visit the MMoA website at https://mysticmuseumofart.org/class-policies-class-registration/ for the PPP form and other important class policies.
